I will grant that this arrangement seems slightly more resource intensive than when the computer ran El Capitan (though as stated much less than High Sierra somehow), but I am perfectly satisfied with the smoothness/performance. Somehow with this Patcher business you have the option of using Mojave and High Sierra with the older (HFS) filesystem, which is what I've done. I'm far from certain about this, but from my layman's perspective I have felt that it is the APFS that is behind these woes on older machines.

Your description sounds exactly like what I used to face on my MBA.

In fact if you feel adventurous, a few months ago I learned of a free program that lets users install the latest macOS versions on unsupported devices.īelieve it or not, the aforementioned MacBook Air is currently running the latest version of Mojave, and it handles this much better than it did (the officially compatible) High Sierra. What are your thoughts? Which OS has the best performance and battery life for this MacBook? world make a beeline for the latest macOS update, and this might asphyxiate Apples servers.

I know downgrading to Mavericks would have security and compatibility risk, as it's no longer supported by apple and a lot of software developers, but since I only use it to browse and do office works, I'm fine with taking that risk if it's faster with longer battery life. Hi everyone, I recently updated my 2019 Macbook Pro to 10. However, it was written back before APFS was available. According to this post Mavericks is the last OS which was able to run smoothly on this machine. However, I'm still facing the same performance and battery issues. At the bottom of the window is a box labelled Options. Under where it says Partition Layout, select 1 Partition. Click on the icon for the new drive, and select the Partition tab. Open the Disk Utility in the Applications folder. I eventually downgraded to High Sierra, thinking Mojave might be to heavy for this MacBook. Place your new SSD into the external caddy and connect it to your Macbook. I found it to be slow and constantly out of RAM, with around 3 hour battery life. It started out with High Sierra when I first got it and I upgraded it to Mojave right away. I've got a 2012 MacBook for my office work.
